Corn Picking Time!

Several weeks ago, after the farmers in the area had picked all their corn, JR and I spent several afternoon scouting the fields and picking up the corn that was left to store for "winter treats" for the donkeys.  On one such afternoon, we decided to take the Little Cowboy with us.  It's always a good thing to have an extra pair of hands along to pick and pile!  And the Little Cowboy couldn't wait to plow through the corn stalks. And the sun was shinning and the warm breeze was blowing just calling our name.  And just because it was the perfect, late autumn day!

Riding along the back trails on the way to a corn field.

The outer edges and corners of the corn fields have the most corn left by the corn picker.  (Whew! Try saying that 3 times real fast!)

We came upon one field that had a small corner left intact.  Corn picking heaven!
 "Pull hard Little Cowboy!"

"Whoa Man, its a jungle out here!"

"This is one tough dude to pick."

"Help!  The corn stalks are attacking me!"

 "That's much better!"

The Little Cowboy's job was to pick up all the corn that fell short of the wagon and toss it into the bucket.  I'm t5hinking........A baseball pitcher in the making!

Time out for exploring and discovery,,,,,,,

.......for climbing on the Mule......

.....and off the Mule!  Again and again!

Helping JR carry a handful of corn to the wagon.

Ahhhh!  The fruits of labor - enjoying a corn wagon ride to the edge of the field.

Watching Pluto Too, Snowball, and Gypsy, as they discover the corn.  They were not quite sure if they should eat the stuff or play Toss Across with it.  So they did a little of both!

Eat up little donkeys before the cows discover what you are nibbling on!

The sun was setting as we crossed the pasture on our way to take the Little Cowboy home.
I'll have to say that having an extra pair of hands sure did make the work go faster!
Thanks, Little Cowboy!

FAST FORWARD SEVERAL DAYS TO FEEDING TIME.....

Gypsy looks on as the Little Cowboy shucks the corn.

"Here you are Gypsy....take a big bite!"

Those donkeys sure do love their winter treats!

Love,
Dee Dee

Pumpkins Big and Small!

Several weeks ago, we (meaning me, Meme T, Pooh, Stack, Little Cowboy and Littler Cowboy) made our annual trip to the pumpkin patch.  It was a glorious day that started off cool and ended up deliciously warm.  We arrived early so we could beat the crowds that usually arrive by boat, plane, and land cruiser later on in the day.  (Just kidding about the boat and plane!)  Nothing beats spending a half a day at this place - unless it's spending a whole day.  So, lets get started!

Pumpkins, pumpkins everywhere!  All colors, shapes and sizes.

Posing for a group picture before the "little cowboys" get ornery from lack of food and sleep.  Like in..
"I'm hungry!" or "I don't want to take a nap!"

"Hmmmm....wonder how they got inside the cab of this truck?"

Riding the "cow train"......

.....all around the farm!

Learning how to "milk" that big, old, Daisy the cow!

And now ----The caterpillar challenge!

Oh yes, this little cowboy had to climb on every single tire!

There were horses made from old tires to ride, and rocks in sandals to remove, and
"LOOK!  Over there!"

Racing down the bum-pity bump slide!

"Yikes!  That was scary!  Let's do it again!"

"And again and again!"

Uh oh, someones stuck!

The two little cowboys playing a big game of big checkers in the BIG barn!

Checking out the chicken coop.
"I've never seen eggs like this before.  Where's the yucky, yellow stuff?"

Big barns need BIG puzzles!

Two little piggies that went to market......

Feeding the goats - or not!

This is more like it!

It's even better when you go down on your stomach!

Learning to load and shoot the corn cob air cannon.

"Who is that buried under all this corn?"

"Oh no!  A Halloween monster!"

A Halloween monster with corn in his ear.

"Let me show you how to go down the slide head first."

And here we have Batman and Robin to the rescue!  Or was it Spiderman?  Or Superman?

So much fun with so much corn!

I believe this little cowboy could sleep in the corn.

See-Sawing - up and down fun!

Learning to drive a corn picker!
"It "ain't" so hard.  You just press this button and that button and turn this knob left and that knob right and pull that lever back and push that lever forward and turn the wheel to the right and then this thing picks the corn!"

Making a quick exit!

Taking a juice break while waiting for the wagon to pull out for the pumpkin field.

"Stack" trying to explain the "ins and outs" of finding the perfect pumpkin to the little cowboys.  I believe it went "in and out" of their little cowboy ears!

Making funny faces at each other.

Some amazing "people" show up on the way to the pumpkin patch!

"I found my perfect pumpkin - it's heavy!"

"This is the pumpkin I want!"

"Hey guys, I can carry my own pumpkin to the wagon!"

The Littlest Cowboy needed just a wee bit of help with his pumpkin.

"Mom, don't worry about someone getting our pumpkins.....

.......I won't let anyone near them!"

The Little Cowboy borrowing Meme T's camera to snap a picture. "Say Cheeeeeeze!"

"I'll show you how to do it!"

Counting the pumpkins before loading them into the car.

This is why you NEVER wait until the end of an outing before snapping a picture.  Cooperation is on the down slide just about nap time!  Time for lunch and then a long snooze!

Good Bye "Down on the Farm!"  See you next Autumn!

Halloween Night!
Ladies and Gentlemen - the famous crime fighting duo -----(drum roll please...)

BATMAN & ROBIN!

It's hard to believe that Halloween has come and gone and that Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away.

See you soon as we take a trip to the corn patch to "glean" some corn for the donkeys!
